THE SOUNDS OF FILM will be featuring interviews with multiple filmmakers and actors whose movies are featured in the Stony Brook Film Festival. Upcoming shows will feature interviews with talent from A FANTASTIC RELATIONSHIP, THE STRANGERS’ CASE, and DAUGHTER OF THE SUN.
Tom Needham will be talking with the stars of A FANTASTIC RELATIONSHIP. The film is about a tough breakup triggered by a disastrous tattoo and a heated Alexa argument, where a couple struggles to feign a happy relationship at her sister’s gathering, leading to hilariously chaotic outcomes in this indie comedy.
A FANTASTIC RELATIONSHIP’s Bridge Stuart is former YouTube star, comedian, writer/director of multiple films. Nikki Mckenzie is most known for her roles on “The Joe Schmo Show, The Full Bounty”, “Scare PewDiePie,” David Spade’s “Fameless” and guest stars on Magnum PI, Hawaii Five O and Lonestar 911.
One program will feature an interview with THE STRANGERS’ CASE’s Brandt Andersen. The film is about what happens when a tragedy strikes a Syrian family in Aleppo, starting a chain reaction of events involving five different families in four different countries.
Brandt Andersen is an activist and artist. Andersen has produced over 30 films. His directorial debut “Refugee” was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short in 2020.
Ryan Ward’s DAUGHTER OF THE SUN is about a 12 year old girl who struggles with life on the run as she travels across the country with her father who has Tourette Syndrome. Wanting nothing more than a normal family life, she befriends a community of outcasts in the remote countryside who want to harness a volatile supernatural power her father is hiding.
Ryan Ward’s debut feature, SON OF THE SUNSHINE (Slamdance), was nominated by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for a Canadian Screen Award (CSA). It screened at over 50 festivals, winning 13 awards, and was distributed by Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Hulu, and MUBI. Ryan also wrote and directed, IN THE BEGINNING WAS WATER AND SKY (PBS) and TIME TRAVELING THROUGH TIME (Tallinn Black Nights, Seattle International Film Festival, Flickers’ First Prize Best Experimental Film).
The Stony Brook Film Festival will be in its 29th year in 2024. The festival is being held July 18-27. All features are paired with a short film, and most films will feature an in-person Q&A with filmmakers. Attendees are invited to vote on the films each night and the winners are announced at the closing night awards ceremony.
The Staller Center for the Arts is located at Stony Brook University, in Stony Brook.
