Hip-hop stars DJ Hurricane and Davy DMX are Tom Needham’s special guests this week on the Sounds of Film. They are going to be discussing their upcoming induction into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 24th at 7:30 pm.
Also attending the event are music legend Kurtis Blow, Public Enemy’s Johnny Juice and new inductee, DJ Jazzy Jay.
DJ Hurricane is a pioneering figure in hip-hop. DJ Hurricane is celebrated for his groundbreaking work with the Beastie Boys and his contributions to groups like Solo Sounds and The Afros. Through the years, he has also released three solo albums. Starting his career in the vibrant hip-hop scene of Hollis, Queens, alongside legends like Run-D.M.C. and Jam Master Jay, Hurricane’s journey has been nothing short of iconic.
Davy DMX’s solo career took off with the release of his instrumental hit “One for the Treble (Fresh)” in 1983, a track that featured his signature use of the Oberheim DMX drum machine and solidified his reputation as a forward-thinking producer. His only full-length album, *Davy’s Ride*, released in 1987, was hailed for its imaginative and technically adept approach to hip-hop. His extensive body of work, including collaborations with Run-DMC, The Fat Boys, and Jam Master Jay, as well as his recent role as the lead bass player for Public Enemy, underscores his lasting impact on hip-hop.
